In large tree removal, the arborist must keep in mind the tree structure that exists not only above the ground, but below as well. If any construction has occurred within the drip line of the tree, it is probable that the root system in that area has been damaged. A good time to fertilize trees in most Southern temperate climates is from fall to mid-spring.  At these times the tree’s roots take the nutrients from the soil and apply them to important health-promoting functions such as root development and disease resistance, rather than simply putting out new growth.

During the growing season, fertilizing can help a tree overcome mineral deficiencies and fight off infections.  If you are fertilizing in mid- to late summer, avoid formulations high in nitrogen as this will just promote weak, new growth that may be easily damaged in the winter.

Do trees need fertilizer?

Proper Insurance Required for Tree Removals

The proper insurance coverage that is required to protect personnel, clients, and property during above ground operations is very expensive, and normally not carried by lawn and landscape firms.  Often the companies carry policies that exclude damages or injuries resulting from tree removal and trimming. Even though they may have worker compensation it will not cover injuries resulting from tree work.
